Canario Luna formed in Medellín, Colombia in 1990, with Andrés Cabas on vocals and guitar, Alfonso Ordoñez on vocals and percussion, Javier García on bass, and Mauricio Rengifo on drums. Their debut album came out in 1995. Their song 'Reir Llorando' became particularly well-known.
Their music drew from Colombian rhythms alongside rock, pop, and jazz. They wrote about things like social issues and love, which sometimes got them into trouble with more conservative listeners. In 2003, Cabas was arrested on drug charges, which created problems for the band.
