A constant lineup of shifting members around singer Scott Kelly, with songs that never softened their abrasive edge.
For a good sense of Cancerslug, try 'Im Gonna Wear Your Blood' from those early days or 'Curse Arcanum' from later on. Both have that unpolished, in-your-face quality that never really changed.
From the start, Cancerslug's sound was raw and aggressive. Songs like 'Im Gonna Wear Your Blood' and 'Born Of Beast' established that abrasive style right out of Los Angeles in the late 1990s. They kept exploring dark themes through tracks like 'Mistress Death' and 'Opium Gods' without ever losing that confrontational approach.
The band formed in Los Angeles in the late 1990s with their debut album 'Pillhead' arriving in 2003. Lineup changes became regular, guitarist Alex Deleon and drummer Jason Karuza left in 2008, bassist Shane Post departed in 2012, but singer Scott Kelly remained the constant vocal presence through it all. They kept releasing albums like 'Omega' in 2012 and 'Phases' in 2016 while maintaining that same raw sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
