Cangaceiros formed in Fortaleza, Ceará in 1993 with Felipe Cordeiro on vocals and percussion, Lili Ferreira on bass, Robson Fernandes on guitar, and Marcos Pimentel on drums. Their debut album 'Nordeste Cariri Cangaço' came out in 1995 and included 'O Careta,' a song about police brutality and inequality that became their breakout hit.
They followed that with albums like 'Cabra da Peste' in 1997 and 'Revolução do Amanhã' in 2006. Other songs in their catalog include 'Saco do Meu Pai,' 'Bater Aonde Dói,' and 'Revolução.'
The band's lyrics sometimes got them in trouble with authorities, and they faced censorship at shows. Their current lineup still includes the original four members along with backing vocalists Nataly Neris and Suely Lima.
