Canidas

Canidas formed in London in 1978, with David Bowe on vocals and Peter Wright on guitar. Their 1981 album 'Asylum' gave them their most recognizable song, a track that built jagged guitar riffs around Bowe's strained vocals. The band's sound was raw and often introspective, which connected with a specific audience even as it kept them from wider popularity.

They released several albums through the 1980s, including 'The Shadow of Doubt' in 1983 and 'Requiem' in 1987. Songs like 'Embrace' and 'Hold' continued in a similar vein, built on tense arrangements and themes that some found challenging. The band's work was periodically interrupted, and their output became less frequent after 1990.

Canidas never aimed for a polished sound. Their recordings, from 'Asylum' to later tracks like 'Soil' and 'Opt,' maintained a consistent, unvarnished quality that defined their small but dedicated following. The music stands as a document of a particular post-punk approach, one that favored intensity over accessibility.
