Canis Familiaris formed in 2004 with Juliana Forner on vocals and lyrics, André Abujamra on guitar and composition, and Rodrigo Amarante on drums. They released their debut album the following year, which included the song "A Pele." That track became their most recognizable work, with its spare arrangement and Forner's direct vocal delivery.
Their sound was often described as unconventional, which made them a cult favorite rather than a mainstream act. They put out two more albums, Tempo Perdido in 2008 and Minotauro in 2011, along with a couple of EPs. The lineup saw some changes around the second album, with Guilherme Lírio joining on bass and Thiago Braga on guitar for a few years.
Songs like "Amanhã Não Sei" and "Dia Ruim" from their later work continued in a similar vein, quiet, introspective pieces built around Forner's lyrics and the band's restrained instrumentation.
