Background notes

Archive material and source history

Cantares de La Cañadita formed in 1964 in the village of La Cañadita, Carabobo, Venezuela. The group started with three brothers, Luis, Francisco, and Vicente Alonzo, and their cousin Rafael Vera, playing local festivals. They recorded their first album in 1967.

Their song 'Devolveme Amada Mia' became widely known, helping them reach listeners beyond Venezuela. Other tracks like 'Nadie Sabe Quien Soy Yo' and 'A Mi Noble Corazón' show their style of romantic ballads set to Venezuelan rhythms.

In the early 1970s, there were claims that the melody for 'Devolveme Amada Mia' was copied, but these were dismissed. The group kept performing with its original members on vocals, guitar, bass, and cuatro.
