Archive material and source history

Cantor Eneas was born Eneas José de Araújo in 1942. He grew up listening to samba, baião, and forró, which shaped his approach to music. In 1972, he worked with composer José Fortuna to write 'Eu Amo Você,' a ballad that became widely popular in Brazil.

That song established his reputation as a singer who could express straightforward romantic feelings. He recorded several albums in the 1970s, including 'Coração Apaixonado' in 1973 and 'Você é Meu Mundo' in 1975. His recordings often featured guitarist Otávio, who became a regular collaborator.

Eneas kept performing and recording through the decade, putting out 'Romance de Amor' in 1977. His music stayed within the realm of romantic popular song, with 'Eu Amo Você' remaining his best-known work.
