Jerry Cantrell was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1966. He co-founded Alice in Chains in 1987 with vocalist Layne Staley, and his guitar work and songwriting helped shape that band's sound on albums like 'Dirt' and 'Jar of Flies' in the early 1990s.
After Staley's death in 2002, Cantrell continued with solo work that began earlier with 'Boggy Depot' in 1998. He's released several albums since, including 'Degradation Rule' in 2002, 'Brighten' in 2009, and 'Atone' in 2021. Songs like 'Cut You In' and 'Angel Eyes' show his range outside the band context.
He's worked with other artists including Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica, and contributed to film soundtracks like 'The Cable Guy' and 'Singles.'
