Capim Seco formed in 1983 in Aracaju, Sergipe, with Joãozinho Freitas on vocals, Betinho Costa on guitar, and Paulo Sérgio on bass. Their music drew from the sounds of Brazil's Northeast region, particularly the sertão landscape that influenced much of their work.
Their 1986 debut album included 'Terra de Valente,' a song that resonated strongly in their home region. Other tracks like 'A Força dos Elementos' and 'Casa de Julieta' appeared in their catalog during the late 1980s and 1990s.
They recorded a live album in 1988 and returned in 1995 with an acoustic release. The group maintained a following in the Northeast while working outside mainstream commercial channels.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
