Capitão Joe formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s, with Joãozinho do Vale as the frontman. Their debut album 'Skapadinha' came out in 1995, and the title track became a hit that mixed samba, funk, and hip-hop. The band's lyrics often dealt with poverty and social inequality, drawing from Brazilian rhythms and American funk.
Another track, 'Tarde ao Seu Lado,' appears among their top songs.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
