Capitão Nemo formed in 2008 in Setúbal, Portugal, with Pedro Caeiro on vocals, Rui Maia on guitar, Pedro "Pite" Pacheco on bass, and Mário "Mazinho" Santos on drums. They took their name from the submarine captain in Jules Verne's novel, which gave them a ready-made theme to work with.
Their 2012 single "Nemo" became their breakthrough hit, reaching charts in Europe and Brazil. The song's refrain about being "just a drop in the ocean" connected with listeners, and it remains their most recognizable track alongside others like "Boa Viagem" and "Dama de Vermelho."
After "Nemo" took off, the band toured more widely and faced some criticism about their direction. They kept making music that mixed rock, pop, and electronic elements, but the conversation around them shifted from their early club shows to questions about commercial appeal.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
