Capolajo formed in Salvador, Bahia in 2006, with Lucas Mendes on vocals, Ricardo Braga on guitar, and Luizinho Oliveira on drums. They started playing a mix of samba, reggae, and Brazilian pop around the local scene.
Their first single 'Cachoeira' came out in 2009 and got some national attention. They've put out a few albums since then, including Coisa Nossa in 2012 and Samba Véio in 2017.
The band added João Mendonça on bass and Gileno Rocha on percussion at some point. In 2015, they caught some criticism for working with Bahia governor Rui Costa.
