Capopi formed in Goiás, Brazil in 2002 with Fernando Zor on lead vocals and guitar, Sérgio Reis on accordion, João Neto on bass, and Cristiano Araújo on drums. They broke through in 2007 with their live debut album, which included the song 'Cowboy Apaixonado.' That track became a sertanejo staple across Brazil.
Their catalog includes songs like 'Forró No Escurinho' and 'Estranhos Na Cama,' and albums such as 'Estrada Real' from 2009 and 'Romântico Demais' from 2011. They released 'Sertanejo Raiz' in 2014 and 'Caçador De Corações' in 2016.
Cristiano Araújo died in a car accident in 2020. The band had previously dealt with a legal dispute over 'Cowboy Apaixonado' in 2015, which they won.
