Car Seat Headrest began as a solo project for Will Toledo in 2010, when he was a teenager in Leesburg, Virginia. He recorded lo-fi albums under the name Nervous Young Man and put them on Bandcamp. The project grew into a band as his music found listeners online.
In 2015, Car Seat Headrest released 'Teens of Denial,' which included songs like 'Drunk Drivers (Killer Whales)' and 'Sober To Death.' The album drew attention for its confessional lyrics and guitar-driven sound. Toledo has revisited earlier material too, re-recording his 2011 album 'Twin Fantasy' in 2018 with fuller production.
The band's current lineup includes Will Toledo on vocals and guitar, Ethan Ives on guitar, Katie Crutchfield on bass, and Andrew Katz on drums. Their work often deals with personal themes, and they've continued putting out records like 'Making a Door Less Open' in 2020.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
