Carbon Leaf formed in Richmond, Virginia in the early 1990s as a trio with Barry Privett on vocals and guitar, Carter Gravatt on vocals and mandolin, and Terry Clark on vocals and bass. Their early sound drew from bluegrass, folk, and rock, which you can hear on songs like "Maybe Today" and "On Any Given Day." They released their self-titled debut album in 1996.
After Clark left in 2002, Privett and Gravatt continued as a duo. They put out albums like "Love Loss Hope Repeat" in 2003 and "Nothing Rhymes with Orange" in 2005. Some of their later songs include "This Is My Song!" and "Follow the Lady."
In more recent years, they've released albums such as "Laughing As We Go" in 2014 and "Echo Now" in 2017. Their catalog shows a steady output of folk-rooted music without much dramatic shift in direction.
