Cardinal Bloom formed in Los Angeles around the mid-2010s, with Ethan Thompson on vocals, Jake Davis on guitar, Ethan Rose on bass, and Andrew James on drums. They put out their first EP, 'Bloom,' in 2017. A year later, their song 'She's Just a Friend' from the EP 'From Ashes' got some attention.
After that, they released an album called 'Ashes to Dust' in 2019, which they made available only on streaming platforms. This move drew some criticism at the time from parts of the industry that were still focused on physical media. They put out another album, 'The Journey,' in 2021.
