Cardinal Sin

Cardinal Sin formed in the Philippines in 1987, a heavy metal band that built a following despite some resistance in the local scene. Their debut album 'Spreading the Gospel' came out a few years later, followed by 'Apocalypse' in 1992 and 'Carnival of Fools' in 1996. The band's lineup included Joey 'Pepe' Smith on vocals, Ricky Belarmino on guitar, Bong 'Bonggoy' Carrion on bass, and Homer 'Butch' Sandiego on drums.

In 1995 they released 'Against the Waterfall,' a concept album that included the title track along with songs like 'Edge of Reality' and 'Genocide Feast.' Their lyrics often dealt with social themes, which sometimes drew criticism from conservative groups. The band kept recording through the 1990s, with songs like 'Hell Turns to Ice' and 'Pinnacle of Ignorance' appearing in their catalog.

Cardinal Sin's music combined heavy riffs with melodic vocals, creating a sound that found an audience in the Philippine rock scene. They never became a mainstream act, but developed a dedicated following for their uncompromising approach. Their recordings from that period continue to circulate among fans of Filipino metal.
