Caribeños de Guadalupe formed in the 1960s in Guadalupe, Mexico, with musicians from Nuevo León. Their sound mixed cumbia, norteño, and tropical rhythms, heard on songs like "Mil Noches" and "Vivo Por Tu Amor." The original lineup included Luis "El Flaco" González on vocals, Eduardo "Lalo" Treviño on guitar, José Guadalupe "Lupe" Tijerina on accordion, and Armando "El Tuerto" Martínez on drums.
In the 1970s, they signed with Capitol Records and released the album "Mil Noches," which became their breakthrough. The title track, a ballad about unrequited love, gained popularity. They recorded more than 20 studio albums over decades, with other songs including "Me Extrañarás" and "Hay Que Saber Perder."
The band faced legal disputes over music rights and royalties with former members, which they eventually resolved. Their lineup changed at times, but they maintained their musical approach centered on themes of love and loss.
