Carlitos formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1989, with Carlos Eduardo de Souza on vocals, Luiz Guilherme on guitar, Leandro Lima on bass, and Pedro Neves on drums. They came together after another band called Os 5Q+1 ended. For a few years, they worked on their sound without much attention.
In 1993, the single "Eu Chego Lá" became a major hit in Brazil. That song's upbeat feel and Souza's delivery connected with listeners and pushed the band into wider recognition. They followed it with albums like Eu Vou Viver in 1994 and O Melhor do Carlitos in 1996.
Other songs from that period include "Perto de Mim," "Aguanta Mamita, Aguanta," and "Amigo Mío." In 2000, Souza was arrested on drug possession charges, which affected the band's public standing. Carlitos kept recording through the 2000s, but Souza left in 2010 to work on solo material.
