Carlitos Rossy was born Carlos Manuel Rossy Cruz in Havana, Cuba, on February 14, 1952. He started writing songs and playing in local clubs, drawing from both traditional Cuban music and rock influences like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. In 1975, he released his debut album, which included the song "Quién Dijo Amigos." That track became a hit across Latin America and helped establish his career.
Rossy's lyrics sometimes addressed social and political themes, which led to friction with Cuban authorities. He recorded albums like "Canta Si Quieres" in 1982 and "El Canto de un Pueblo" in 1986 while living in the United States and Europe.
Other songs like "7 Días," "Amor Del Bueno," and "En El Pasado" show his range as a songwriter. He kept recording into the 1990s with albums such as "De Cuba al Mundo" in 1992.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
