Carlos Cachaça was born Carlos Alberto Corrêa in Rio de Janeiro in 1948. He formed his band Carlos Cachaça e Grupo in the early 1970s with musicians like Jurandir de Souza on cavaquinho and Luiz Carlos da Silva on drums.
Their 1982 album 'Amor de Carnaval' gave them their breakthrough hit, a song that became a carnival standard alongside tracks like 'Cabrocha' and 'Clotilde.' The band's sound mixed traditional samba with funk and carnival rhythms.
Some of their lyrics and stage shows drew criticism at the time, but they kept playing the music they wanted to play. Their recordings include songs like 'Crueldade,' 'Quem me vê sorrindo,' and 'Alvorada.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
