The band's name comes from a Portuguese proverb about facing danger directly, which seemed to fit Cavalheiro's approach. Their debut album 'Sem Fome Não Há Pão' came out in 1987 and found an audience with its raw energy and confessional lyrics.
A Boca do Lobo released several albums in the late 80s and early 90s, including the self-titled 'A Boca do Lobo' in 1989. Cavalheiro's songwriting drew from influences like David Bowie and Iggy Pop, creating music that felt both personal and theatrical. The band's 1991 album 'Não Há Nada a Fazer' continued in this vein.
In 1993, Cavalheiro was arrested for drug possession, which led to a break in the band's activity. He eventually returned to music, addressing his struggles with addiction in his work.
