Carlos Junior formed in Belém, Brazil in 2000, a group of friends making music that drew from Amazonian traditions, psychedelic rock, and Brazilian popular styles. Their song titles suggest a particular fascination with regional myth and local figures, like 'A Invenção da Amazônia: Um Delírio Imaginário de Júlio Verne' or 'A Águia Radiante Com o Pioneiro Das Comunicações: João Jorge Saad (70 Anos de Conquistas e Realizações).'
