Carlos Papel came up playing guitar in Rio de Janeiro bars in the 1980s. He formed a band with bassist Marcos Silva and drummer Pedro Costa, and their 1995 debut album 'Nosso Amor' had a song called 'Crepúsculo' that caught on nationally. It's a bittersweet ballad about love and loss that people still remember.
Other songs like 'Lembrar de Mim' and 'Mel da Lua' followed, and the band kept putting out albums through the 2000s. They added a keyboardist, André Luz, in 2002. Some of their music videos and lyrics drew criticism from conservative groups at the time, and there was a plagiarism accusation over another song in 2000 that was later dismissed.
They recorded a live album in Portugal in 2014. The band's sound was built around Papel's guitar and vocals, with straightforward arrangements that let the melodies come through.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
