Carlos Randall came up singing on the streets of Rio de Janeiro, where he picked up the rhythms of samba. His first album in 1995, also called 'Feliz Feito Uma Besta,' gave him a hit with the title track. That song, along with others like 'Mãe, Larga do Meu Pé' and 'Eu e Você Numa Ilha,' built him a following with their direct, emotional delivery.
His lyrics sometimes touched on social issues, which brought him both listeners and some criticism. He kept recording through the late 1990s, putting out another album called 'A Grande Família' in 1999. The music stayed grounded in Brazilian styles, without much polish, which felt right for where it came from.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
