Carmesim formed in São Paulo in the early 1990s around vocalist Carmela Corvo, with Guilherme Arantes on keys, Sergio Campuzano on bass, and Fábio Santanna on drums. Their first album, 'Álbum de Fotografias,' came out in 1995 and included 'Lembranças,' a song about lost love that became their breakout hit.
That debut established their sound, which pulled from bossa nova and samba but had a melancholic, ethereal quality. They toured Brazil and abroad for a while, but their second album in 1999 took a darker, more experimental turn that didn't connect with all their early listeners.
Carmesim kept recording after that, putting out albums like 'Acústico' in 2003 and 'Gravidade' in 2009. Other songs from their catalog include 'Deixa Eu Tentar,' 'É Melhor,' and 'Pesadelos.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
