Carmilla formed in Munich in 1989, with Sonja Kraushofer on vocals and keyboards, Stefan Ackermann on guitar, Ralf Müller on bass, and Matthias Hörnig on drums. Their sound pulled from industrial rock and darkwave, with Kraushofer's spoken or whispered vocals sitting over distorted guitar and steady drumming.
Their track 'Das Fabrik' came out in 1990 and became a kind of signature piece for them. Other songs like 'L'Arbusto Sul Cemento' and 'Lilith' show their mix of industrial beats and melodic, sometimes unsettling arrangements.
They put out albums like 'Copycat' in 1992 and 'Darker' in 1994, working in that same space where mechanical rhythms meet darker themes. By 2004 they'd released 'Memento Mori', which had a more reflective tone.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
