Carnaval Colibri formed in 2008 when singer-songwriter Felipe Cordeiro met bassist Yuri Reis in Rio de Janeiro. They shared an interest in samba and Brazilian folk music, which became the foundation for their work. Their debut album 'A Divina Comunicação Canina' came out in 2011, with the title track exploring themes of human and canine connection.
Their songs like 'Claruel' and 'Cobertor Azul' show their approach to blending traditional Brazilian sounds with other elements. By their second album 'Pangeia' in 2014, they were incorporating electronica and experimental touches into their music. Their third album 'Mergulho' in 2018 took a more introspective turn, focusing on emotional themes with what critics called poetic songwriting.
They've maintained a consistent presence in Brazilian music without dramatic shifts in their core approach. Their catalog includes songs like 'Éden Africano' and 'Eu Sou do Mal' that continue to draw from the same musical traditions they started with.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
