Casa de Sal formed in 2003 in the coastal town of La Paloma, Uruguay, with Guillermo Tabárez on vocals and guitar, Nicolás Ibarburu on bass, and Martín Ibarburu on drums. They started playing live shows around the area, building a local following with a mix of folk, rock, and Latin rhythms.
In 2007, their second album included the track "Barco," which became a hit in Uruguay. The song's lyrics about the sea and its melodic arrangement connected with listeners, helping the band reach a wider audience. Other songs like "Camafeu" and "Doce Veneno" also became part of their setlists during this period.
Later albums like "Valija de Viaje" and "El Mar" showed the band incorporating more folk and world music elements while keeping their rock foundation. They continued performing and recording, maintaining the core trio lineup from their early days in La Paloma.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
