Casa di Caboclo formed in Salvador, Bahia in the early 1990s, with vocalist Gigi Monteiro and guitarist Bruno Reis at the start. They worked with Afro-Brazilian rhythms and samba, though their sound had some contemporary touches.
Their 1997 song "Dona do Barraco" became a hit in Brazil, reaching the top of the charts. Other tracks like "O Pagador de Promessas (Oyá)" and "Poético, Etílico e Ritmado" followed in their catalog.
Monteiro left the band in the early 2000s to pursue solo work, while Reis stayed on with new members. Some critics raised questions about their lyrics, but they kept recording.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
