Casa do Kame

Casa do Kame formed in Brasília in the late 1990s, with Rafael Moreira on vocals, Vitor Brauer on guitar, Pedro Augusto on bass, and Henrique Iwao on drums. Their name means 'House of the Turtle' in Portuguese, which they've described as fitting for music that unfolds slowly like an ecosystem. They released their first album, 'Em Cada Canto um Espelho,' in 2002.

Their songs often have unusual titles and themes, like 'Mais de 8000 Insetos' ('More Than 8000 Insects') and 'Cabelo Amarelo' ('Yellow Hair'). The music pulls from rock, bossa nova, and psychedelic sounds, with intricate guitar work and rhythms that shift unexpectedly. They've mentioned Radiohead and Björk as influences.

By 2010 they'd put out a few more records, including 'Sorte Grande' in 2005 and 'A Corrente' in 2010. Their approach has stayed fairly experimental, which hasn't always lined up with more traditional rock tastes in Brazil. They've kept at it without much compromise, letting the songs develop at their own pace.
