Casa Loca 13 formed in 2007 in Barcelona's Lado Oeste neighborhood, a place they'd later name a song after. The group brought together musicians with different backgrounds, including vocalist El Canijo, rapper El Negri, guitarist El Gitano, bassist El Zurdo, and drummer El Patillas. Their sound mixed rap with funk and Latin rhythms, avoiding any single genre's conventions.
Their debut album 'Riesgo y Placer' came out in 2009 and included 'Lado Oeste,' which became something of an anthem for their neighborhood. They followed it with 'El Círculo' in 2011 and 'Retrovisor' in 2013, each showing different sides of their musical approach. Other tracks like 'Guetto Sem Correntes' and 'Capital do Mundo' reflected their interest in urban life and social themes.
Their lyrics often dealt with difficult subjects like poverty and police relations, which sometimes drew criticism. But their concerts tended to be packed, particularly with younger listeners who connected with their direct style.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
