Cassandra Complex formed in the late 1990s with vocalist Penny Century and guitarist Michael Sever at its center. Their name references the Greek mythological figure whose prophecies were ignored. The band's debut album was 1999's 'In Search of Penny Century,' which included the track '(In Search of) Penny Century.'
They released several more albums through the 2000s, including 'Dreaming in Tongues' in 2002, 'The Bells' in 2005, and 'Disappear' in 2008. Other members at various points included keyboardist Emily Browning, bassist David Rinaldi, and drummer Nick Burke. Their songs like 'City of Dreams' and 'Forever' often explored themes of alienation and searching.
Cassandra Complex stopped working together in 2012. Penny Century and Michael Sever have both continued making music separately since then.
