Cássia Abreu first gained attention in 1996 with her version of "O Rei do Gado," which served as the opening theme for a Brazilian telenovela. The song's popularity connected her voice to that particular moment in television, and she followed it with other tracks like "Temporal" and "Km 11."
Her self-titled debut album arrived in 1997, and she released another called "Além do Horizonte" in 2003. Much of her work appeared on telenovela soundtracks, which kept her associated with that format. She has recorded with artists including Roberto Carlos, Caetano Veloso, and Chico Buarque.
In 2005, she faced plagiarism accusations that she denied, and that period was difficult professionally. She returned to recording in the 2010s.
