CasuloO formed in Belo Horizonte in 2014 with vocalist Thiago Pethit, guitarist Pedro Martins, bassist Thiago Mendonça, and drummer Vinicius Naves. They started playing small venues around the city, working out a sound that mixed indie, folk, and alternative rock. Their first album, 'Olho Nu,' came out in 2016.
Songs like 'Eu Tenho' and 'Gente Brasileira' caught on with listeners, and they followed up with albums like 'Oásis' in 2018 and 'O Ano do Macaco' in 2020. In 2017, a track called 'O Fim' was misinterpreted by some as promoting suicide, which led to some backlash. The band clarified their intentions and moved forward.
They kept the same four members throughout, with Pethit's vocals and Martins' guitar work giving their music its particular feel. Their songs often lean toward the atmospheric and introspective, like 'Reggae, a Vida,' without settling into one clear genre.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
