Cat Esteven

Cat Stevens was born Steven Demetre Georgiou to Greek Cypriot parents. He started releasing music as a teenager, putting out his first single "I Love My Dog" in 1964 when he was 16. His early albums like "Matthew and Son" from 1967 had a folk-rock feel that caught people's attention.

In the early 1970s, he released several albums that became his most well-known work, including "Tea for the Tillerman" and "Teaser and the Firecat." Songs like "Moonshadow" from this period have stayed in circulation long after their initial release. His music during these years incorporated various styles while maintaining a distinctive vocal presence.

In 1976, he converted to Islam and changed his name to Yusuf Islam. This shift affected his musical output, with later albums like "Izitso" reflecting his changed perspective.

He worked with musicians including Richard Thompson and Alun Davies during his recording career. Despite the controversies, albums like "Catch Bull at Four" and "Foreigner" from the early 1970s remain part of his catalog.
