Cata Raybaud co-founded the Mexican rock band Caifanes in 1987. With the group, she sang on albums like 'El Silencio' in 1989 and 'El Diablito' in 1990. Their song 'Ahí Va!' became a generational anthem in Mexico.
She left Caifanes to pursue solo work, releasing her self-titled debut album in 1995. That record showed her moving into jazz and folk territory while keeping some rock elements. Later solo albums included 'Lo Blanco' in 1999 and 'Alma Mía' in 2005.
Her voice had a haunting quality that worked in both the band's electronic-tinged rock and her more varied solo material. Songs like 'Celos' and 'Cómo Decirte' from her own catalog continued to connect with listeners who followed her from the Caifanes years.
