Catulo da Paixão Cearense

Catulo da Paixão Cearense was born in 1897 in Barbalha, Ceará, in northeastern Brazil. He grew up around the accordion music and storytelling traditions of the sertão region, which shaped his approach to songwriting.

In 1929, he wrote "Luar do Sertão," a song that became widely known for its portrayal of the Brazilian countryside. Other songs like "Caboca Di Caxangá" and "Flor Amorosa" also became part of his catalog. His music was sometimes described as forró, though it drew from various regional styles.

He worked with musicians including Alberto Ribeiro and Zé C, though details about specific band lineups are sparse. The existing records suggest he kept performing and writing through much of his life, with songs that remained familiar in Brazil long after.
