Cavalier was a Los Angeles band that formed in the late 1980s. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1989 and included the song "Jenny Lynne," which became their most recognizable track. The lineup featured Steve Walsh on vocals and guitar, Tony Stell on bass, and John Skewes on drums.
"Jenny Lynne" had a sparse, melancholic arrangement with David Lindley adding slide guitar. The song's ambiguous lyrics about loss or longing sparked plenty of listener speculation, but the band never clarified its meaning. Other songs like "Mayday! Mayday!" and "Saturn" appeared on later albums.
They released two more studio records, 1992's "The Blue Hour" and 2006's "Songs from the Edge." The long gap between those albums suggests the band's activity was sporadic after the early 1990s. Their music mixed folk and rock elements with a subdued, atmospheric quality.
