Editor's note

C.C. Catch's synth-pop hits defined 80s European dance floors.

The Dutch-German singer found international success with producer Dieter Bohlen in the mid-1980s.

For the full C.C. Catch experience, start with 'Heartbreak Hotel' and 'Are You Man Enough'. Those two tracks really lock in that 1986 Europop sound she helped define.

When 'Heartbreak Hotel' came out in 1986, it wasn't about Elvis. It was a synth-driven dance track that became a staple in European clubs. Songs like 'Are You Man Enough' and 'I Can Lose My Heart Tonight' captured that specific moment when Europop was crossing borders. Her collaboration with Bohlen created a sound that still gets played at 80s nights.

She started in a band called Optimal before meeting producer Dieter Bohlen, who helped create her stage persona. Their partnership produced albums like 'Catch the Catch' and hits throughout the mid-80s. After leaving Bohlen's label in 1989, she continued performing under her birth name, Caroline Müller.
