Creedence Clearwater Revival came out of El Cerrito, California in the late 1960s with a sound that felt more like the Louisiana bayou than the San Francisco Bay Area. The band was built around brothers John and Tom Fogerty, with Stu Cook on bass and Doug Clifford on drums. They'd started playing together years earlier as The Golliwogs before signing with Fantasy Records and changing their name.

Their music had a straightforward, driving quality that cut through the psychedelic haze of the era. John Fogerty's voice had a rough, urgent edge, and his guitar playing was economical and direct. Songs like "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Risin'," and "Born On The Bayou" became radio staples almost immediately, built on simple, memorable riffs and choruses that felt both fresh and familiar.

The band released a remarkable run of albums between 1968 and 1970, including "Bayou Country," "Green River," "Willy and the Poor Boys," and "Cosmo's Factory." These records were packed with concise, three-minute songs that blended rock, blues, and country elements without sounding like a calculated fusion. They worked quickly, often recording basic tracks in a single take.

Internal tensions, particularly between the Fogerty brothers, led to the band's dissolution in 1972. John Fogerty went on to a solo career, but those few years of concentrated output left behind a body of work that still sounds remarkably undated.
