C.D. Pavilhão Nove formed in Lisbon in 1993, with members Mundo, Valete, Sam the Kid, and Maze. They released their first EP, 'Rapública,' the following year. Their music often addressed social issues, which sometimes drew criticism alongside support.
Their 1999 album '99' included the track 'Breque,' which became one of their most recognized songs. That same year, they also released 'Fios de Esperança.' The group won awards for Best Portuguese Hip Hop Album in 2000 for '99' and again in 2005 for their album 'Real.'
They put out several other records, including 'Água Firme' in 1997, 'Poetas de Karaoke' in 2002, and their final studio album 'Real' in 2005. Another notable track is 'Grito de Guerra Pavilhão 9.' In 2013, the City of Lisbon awarded them a Gold Medal for Artistic Merit.
