Celestial Season

Celestial Season formed in the late 1980s around bassist and vocalist Kate St. John and guitarist Simon Hinkler. Their debut album 'Faraway' came out in 1989, introducing a sound that drew from 4AD artists like Cocteau Twins and The Cure, with elements of goth, folk, and dream pop woven through the arrangements.

In 1993, the band released their sophomore album '21:20 Desire,' which included the title track that became their most recognizable song. St. John wrote most of the lyrics, which often dealt with themes of love and loss over ethereal, melancholy melodies.

Their music includes tracks like 'Boarding Music' and 'Afterglow,' which share that atmospheric quality. The band faced various challenges over time, including periods of inactivity and lineup changes, but they continued to work within that darkwave space they helped define.
