Celso Ricardi was born in 1939 in São João da Barra, a small town in Rio de Janeiro. He started playing guitar and singing in Rio's nightclubs, drawing from bossa nova and samba. In 1961, his self-titled debut album came out, and the song 'Te Amo Eternamente' quickly became a hit.
That song, along with others like 'Porque Te Amo' and 'Recordações de Amor', defined his sound, romantic ballads set to gentle bossa rhythms. He kept recording through the 1970s and 1980s, putting out albums such as 'Para Viver um Grande Amor' in 1978 and 'Por Amor' in 1984.
He was known for being outspoken, which sometimes stirred things up, but he kept writing and performing his own material.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
