Celso Trancinha came out of Belo Horizonte in the mid-1980s with a band called Flagelo. They put out a single called 'Sepultura' in 1984, a heavy track that mixed punk and metal and got people talking because of its grim lyrics about mass graves and war.
That song became a hit despite the arguments, and it pretty much defined Trancinha's name. He kept Flagelo going through lineup changes, with guitarist Fábio 'Lamúria' and bassist Gigante passing through at different points. They released albums like 'Morto Vivo' in 1987 and 'Cemitério do Diabo' in 1989, leaning into thrash and industrial sounds without losing that raw edge.
