Cerise Calixte

Cerise Calixte formed in Montreal in 2017 around vocalist Camille Poliquin, with multi-instrumentalists Vincent Carré and Jordan Paré completing the trio. Their name translates to 'cherry calix,' which hints at the sweet-and-bitter quality in their music. They've put out three albums: the debut 'Fleur de Nuit' in 2018, the more experimental 'Mirage' in 2020, and 'Luminance' in 2022.

Their sound pulls from folk, classical, and electronic music, built on vocal harmonies, synthesizers, and lyrics that lean toward the introspective. The song 'Le Bleu Lumière' became something of an anthem for listeners looking for that kind of reflective space. Early on, some critics found their work too cerebral or hard to categorize, but they kept releasing music independently and playing smaller shows.

They recorded 'Luminance' with some outside musicians, which gave that album a broader scope. There's not much else to say beyond the records themselves, they make quiet, layered music that doesn't fit neatly into a single genre.
