Cesarel formed in São Paulo in 2003, started by Rafael Virgílio, Felipe Cruz, Leandro Silva, and Alexandre Moreira. They were young musicians who liked hip-hop and wanted to make music about faith that felt current. In 2006, their song 'Rap do Pastor' got attention. It talked about social issues and became a hit for them.
They put out albums like 'Rap do Pastor' in 2006, 'O Pastor Está de Volta' in 2008, and 'Fé na Missão' in 2011. Other songs include 'Rap da Verdade' and 'Favo de amor'. Their approach mixed rap with gospel themes, which some people in religious circles found fresh and others questioned.
The band grew to include Daniel Santos on bass, Jonathan Oliveira on guitar, and Ellen Coque on backing vocals. They kept making music through the 2010s, with 'O Quinto Elemento' coming out in 2014.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
