Chad Kroeger and Josey Scott are best known for the song "Hero," which came out of their work together in the hard rock band Saliva. The band formed in 1996 with Kroeger on guitar and vocals, Scott on lead vocals, and a lineup that included guitarist Dave Novotny, bassist Chris D'Abaldo, and drummer Paul Crosby. Their self-titled debut album arrived in 1997.
"Hero" was written during a difficult time for Scott, who channeled personal struggles into the lyrics. The song appeared on Saliva's 2001 album "Every Six Seconds."
Scott left Saliva in 2006, after which Kroeger continued with the band. They released several more albums, including "Back into Your System" in 2004 and "Blood Stained Love Story" in 2007. Scott went on to pursue solo work.
