Chad Valley is the project of Hugo Manuel, who started working on ambient textures and lo-fi beats around 2005. The project's first EP, 'Equatorial Ultraviolet,' came out in 2008. A few years later, the 2011 album 'Shell Suite' got more attention, with its title track becoming a notable piece in their catalog.
Manuel has worked with other artists over time, including Boards of Canada, Bibio, and Tycho. The music has appeared on albums like 'Fatherland' in 2016 and 'Moving Pictures' in 2018, along with songs such as 'Arms Away' and 'Fathering / Mothering.'
In 2016, there were some plagiarism claims about a song called 'All That Glitters,' which Manuel said were coincidental. The project has kept putting out music without much of the usual promotional framing.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
