Archive material and source history
Chagall Guevara was a band whose name combined references to painter Marc Chagall and revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara. They came together in France with Manuel Jupin on vocals and guitar, Ludovic Rambaud on bass, and Romain Quirot on drums.
Their debut album in 2001 was called "Can't You Feel the Chains?" and included the title track that became one of their better-known songs. They followed it with "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" in 2004, "Against the Empire" in 2007, and "The Songs of Freedom" in 2010.
Their lyrics often addressed social and political themes, which sometimes led to friction with authorities and event cancellations. Other songs in their catalog include "Candy Guru," "Escher's World," "I Need Somebody," and "If It All Comes True."
